The first
edition of North Africa was written and compiled by Hans van Rijn. That
edition was the first pilot to provide combined coverage of the Mahgreb countries
Morocco, Algiers and Tunisia in a single volume. Graham Hutt was commissioned to
revise the pilot. He has extended its coverage to include the Atlantic coast of
Morocco which is being used increasingly not only by Gibraltar-based yachts but also
yachts on passage to the Canary Islands and eventually the Atlantic crossing.
Graham Hutt has
explored all the harbours of Atlantic Morocco from his base in Southern Spain. He
has also cruised extensively in Tunisia and, as an expert on Islamic culture, has produced
a worthy successor to Hans van Rijns original work.
The 3rd edition
has been fully revised.

About the Author: Graham Hutt began sailing while serving in
the Royal Navy, gaining RYA Ocean and DTI qualifications on Joint Service yachts in the
1970s. In 1980 he moved to the E Mediterranean with his family, making his base on a 68ft
schooner in Cyprus. Several months each year since then have been spent sailing in the
Mediterranean and along the North African coast. Recently he has been based in Italy and
Spain, also cruising the Baleares Islands. His yachts have included a 28 ft Stella, a 48
ft Hartley Fijian and now a French built Orion 39. An interest in the Arab world and its
language as well Arab roots in Europe have been a major part of his work and sailing area
over the past 26 years. Combining work as a medical anthropologist, with consultancy in
the Arab world, continues to facilitate a broad range of interests in Mediterranean
sailing, research and writing. |
