Since this book was published there have
been structural developments to some harbours, political attitudes have hardened in Russia and the Ukraine, which in 2010 were no longer so welcoming to yachtsmen, and Romania and Bulgaria have joined the EU and improved their facilities. Nevertheless these books continue to provide excellent planning information for anyone planning to cruise the Black Sea.
Following the Black Sea Rallies in 1999 and 2000, Doreen and Archie Annan became aware of the potential of the Black Sea as an uncrowded and varied cruising area. As a result, with the help of local sailors, the first cruising guide to cover all the ports and harbours available for yachts in the Black Sea was prepared.
The pilot covers the 2000nM coast of the Black Sea, as a fascinating area with over 180 anchorages and ports in the 6 surrounding countries of Turkey, Georgia, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria
Tabulated details of each harbour are supported by coloured sketch maps prepared by the Authors. Many coloured photos demonstrate the beauty of the area.
Town Plans, places of interest and inland trips are included together with all the essential information covering visas, weather etc.
The sister publication "Cruise the Ukraine" is also available. (though it is included in the main Black Sea Pilot.) After visiting Ukraine with the Black Sea Rally the authors realised the potential of cruising along the coast of Ukraine and its rivers. With the help of local sailors they were able to visit every possible anchorages and harbours available for a yacht.
The result is the comprehensive guide "Cruise Ukraine". The details of each harbour and river are presented in Tabulated form and accompanied by relevant sketch plans. Town plans, places of interest and inland trips are included in the book.
